Panel Session 22nd International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (CIKM) Burlingame, CA, USA. Oct 27 - Nov 1, 2013 We are going to hold a special panel session, Channeling the Deluge: Research Challenges for Big Data and Information Systems, at CIKM 2013. The panel session will be on Oct 31st, Thursday, 2:45pm - 3:45pm. Title: Channeling the Deluge: Research Challenges for Big Data and Information Systems Panel Chair
Panelists
Abstract With massive amounts of data and information pouring into our society, researchers and developers have encountered many new, challenging issues on the construction of new generation of data and information systems. The participants of CIKM 2013 are active researchers on large-scale data, information and knowledge management, from several research disciplines, including database systems, data mining, information retrieval, and knowledge/information management. An often raised, important question is: "what are the most critical research issues on data and information systems in the big data age with massive but diverse applications, and how our research may make its due impacts to the development of new technologies in these fields?" At this panel, we invite several prominent research leaders in industry and academia to present their visions on what should be the challenging research issues in this promising research frontier and hope to attract heated discussions and debates from the audience. We expect researchers with different backgrounds will raise different challenging research problems and exchange their views with each other and with the audience. The heated discussion may help young researchers understand the need for research in both industry and academia and invest their efforts on more important research issues and make impacts to the development of new principles, methodologies, and technologies. |
